21st Centuary [Jun. 30th, 2008|06:15 pm]
[Current Mood | bored]

I've finally upgraded my phone. The new one not only plays mp3s (which will be OK for a small selection of my music) and has a radio, but also does bluetooth, and web browsing (when/if I can be arsed to set it up and work out just how much orange will gouge me for using it), pictures, videos, and runs java apps.

And now, as it looks like I might be doing a bit of driving to unfamiliar places this summer, my mind turns to satnav. It's not that I can't plan a route, it's just that reading my notes, or a map, is a tad difficult while driving.

Note to self [Jun. 16th, 2008|07:31 pm]
[Current Mood | hungry]

Cooking more often would be a good way to avoid half an hour cleaning and peeling veggies.

OTOH, I will (eventually) have a huge pot of mashed veg.

Exercise [Jun. 14th, 2008|09:58 am]
[Current Mood | busy]

So far today I have:
Walked into Oundle to the Farmers' market
Mowed the lawn (I say lawn, as it's about 50% grass and 50% clover)

Now to go shower and shave then head off to Flag Fen

bugger! [Jun. 8th, 2008|08:54 pm]

Looks like the little UPS just died.

Now to work out if it's revivable, or a returnee (although if I have to pay for a courier by weight, I might not bother)

Not my day [Jun. 2nd, 2008|07:48 pm]
[Current Mood |fed up]

Took a tomato to work to go with my cheese sarnies at lunch. Managed to spray the juice over my desk (but not over anything important)

Eating a frozen meal tonight, as I don't feel like cooking, and anyway, I've been busy getting the big UPS connected to the main PC (which means I can now upgrade the backups server, knowing that the newer version of the software will monitor the other UPS properly). Partially defrosted the food in its box, transferred it to a bowl, started breaking up the big block of frozen food, scattered about 1/4 of it out of the bowl, off my (white, of course) shirt, on to the floor.
Clean up, put food in micro for further heating. It turns out to be the fish soup type stuff, which was thought to be a bit iffy, having been in the freezer when it stopped working. It definitely looks and smells a bit fishy as it's warming up.

Frozen chilli now defrosing in microwave. Hopefully I can avoid wearing this one.

planning [Jun. 1st, 2008|12:49 pm]

Right, my plans for today are:
Get at least one UPS in and working.
Cook big pot of veggie stew/chilli type thing

I think I may just go and do the second one now.

Bah! [May. 29th, 2008|07:20 am]
[Current Mood | aggravated]

Since the mini powercut last week this machine has been OK (give or take fscking when it rebooted).

Yesterday morning it suddenly decided to set the root partition read-only. Another good fsck and it seems to be OK.
This morning it througha kernel oops for no easily identifiable reason.

I think something got a bit unhappy when the power went. 8-(

In other news, I am now in full control of the washing up, and have it down to managable proportions.
Therefore I'll vreate a load more by cooking tonight 8-)

[Current Mood | curious]

I appear to have made exactly one portion of spicy stirfry veggies. How the heck did that happen?

This should be fun [May. 13th, 2008|09:33 pm]
[Current Mood | determined]

It appears that Dale is organising a jam night at the start of June, and I've been asked to go play. (Which makes a change from recording stuff, I suppose).
I've been thinking it's about time I got the bass out and started practicing again, so this is a good incentive to get the fingers toughened up.

It's the little things [May. 13th, 2008|01:19 pm]
[Current Mood | amused]

I finally gave in and looked at Ikariam (you goits!)

I'm sure I shouldn't be so happy about something as simple as loading up a ship and sending it off to delivery stuff to george. A little progress goes a long way, I guess.

Oh bugger [May. 13th, 2008|08:04 am]
[Current Mood | aggravated]

The other day we had a bit of a brownout.

TV stayed on, most of the computers didn't. My main PC needed to recover from journal when it came back up, and now it's starting to have problems with stuffed up inodes.

How many times do I keep telling myself I need a UPS?

Time to fsck the drives I guess.

Very funky speakers, if you don't mind the fuel usage, and exhaust.

It's that time of year again. Which ex-talent show contestant do we send to Serbia? (Actually there's one act that hasn't been on a TV talent show, so there might actually be somebody who can sing)

Hmm (musically) [Jan. 27th, 2008|04:53 pm]
[Current Mood | contemplative]

http://www.rpmchallenge.com/

Now, I'm busy for a few days at the start of the month, and I'm working on somebody else's album at the end of the month, and I'm not overly happy with my available instruments. Still, I dunno, maybe. Oh, must be sent on CD to count; stuff that then.

Looking at the list of participating artists, there's some really good band names. 8-)

And it links to http://www.fawm.org/ who have at least heard of MP3s 8-)

And that's all I need [Jan. 16th, 2008|11:17 pm]
[Current Mood | aggravated]

Something, probably the PSU fan, maybe the HDD, is making a noise in the firewall box. Considering the bits are supposed to be pretty silent (well, maybe except the disk drive, it's an acient 1.2GB job), this is somewhat worrying.

I've got a spare hard drive (I think), but no spare power supply. Might be time to get a spare.

Oh, if it's the disk, that'd mean the firewall would end up having more disk space than the desktop machines. Which is silly.

Hmm [Dec. 24th, 2007|06:50 pm]
[Current Mood | amused]

I'm not sure if this means I should stop drinking wine, or drink more:

Sitting down with chicken wings, turkey, mashed spud and loads of other stuff, and an laternative way of grading meat hits me:
Grading meat by BMI.

George thinks there might be a PhD in it.

It's definitely Xmas [Dec. 23rd, 2007|10:02 am]
[Current Mood | cold]

Thought I'd check the TV schedules for the next few days, and there they are:
The Great Escape
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Several versions of A Christmas Carol
The Tigger Movie.

No sign of Sound Of Music though.

Merry whatever [Dec. 16th, 2007|01:48 pm]
[Current Mood | aggravated]

Today has rapidly become one of those days.

Car was pulling left as I drove over to do the food shopping. Pulled up in the carpark and a woman pulls up alongside and says "Do you know you've got a flat tyre?"

So let's mark today down as a day I wished I'd had a long-sleeved top on.

Got home from shopping, went to put stuff in the freezer, and the ice-lollies on the top shelf are little bags of red liquid. Having the fridge-freezer in the garage is starting to look questionable. George took a steak out of the freezer on Friday and that was well frozen, so it looks like it shut down yesterday, as all the meat and stuff has thawed (lots of cooking to do today then.). Turning the temperature control (in the fridge bit) all the way to off and back up again seems to have kicked the freezer back to life, but seeing as we've just had to empty it, we'll defrost it before we try again.

Oh, and the smoke alarms are playing silly buggers as well, but I suppose leaving the back door open may have something to do with that. I hope.
